Every Australian region now equipped with expert team tackling local employment issues

With Local Jobs and Skills Taskforces dedicated to addressing regional priorities, the Local Jobs Program is driving economic recovery in each region as the nation recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Local Jobs Program has delivered great results across multiple regions with some of the highest rates of unemployment in the country, and the national expansion means that all employment regions will be able to benefit from tailored responses to their specific conditions.” Stacey Joseph, Employment Facilitator for Hobart and Southern Tasmania said.

A recent success story is the Lady Gowrie Tasmania Pathways to a Traineeship Program for the early childhood education can care sector.

This pre-employment program, delivered by Lady Gowrie Tasmania in partnership with Workskills Incorporated, saw 18 participants successfully completing a six-week program including a two-week work placement, to help prepare them for work in this sector. At the end of the placement, 13 participants were offered a Certificate III traineeship and one offered a Diploma in Early Childhood Education with Lady Gowrie Tasmania. A further two participants gained employment within the Lady Gowrie Tasmania Outside School Hours Care Programs.

“Funding from the Local Jobs Program allowed us to provide tailored training in early childhood education and care for specific employment opportunities in our region.” Kathy Cripps, Lady Gowrie Tasmania Education and Care General Manager said.

“With early childhood and care workers in strong demand in Tasmania the Local Jobs funding has helped to provide an employment pathway for the participants in the program.” Kathy said.

Businesses who are struggling to find job seekers with the skills they need, or training organisations that can see a gap in the market, can reach out to their Local Employment Facilitators to discuss a range of programs, funding and partners that could help meet their needs.
