BASSINTHEGRASS is almost here and there’s a swag of extra activities and entertainment to complement the line-up of world-class artists who will be playing across two stages at Darwin’s iconic Mindil Beach on 20 May 2023.
If festival-goers need a break from the dancefloor there’s plenty to do, from chilling out while they recharge their phone and their batteries, to taking part in a Saltwater Ceremony on the beach.
The Village returns this year, and will feature the new Good Vibes Marketplace, where guests can pick up some fun accessories to finish off their outfit. Stalls include Vuelo Vintage Goods & Eyewear (the brand is a regular on the Australian and American festival circuit) and Desire Shop, a Mindil Beach Sunset Markets regular with a boho vibe. Music fans can get glammed up with braids, a haircut and a chance to shine with a glitter makeover thanks to the Illumination Station by Fairy Jill.
Official BASS charity partner Dolly’s Dream returns this year, spreading kindness and taking a stand against bullying. Attendees can stop by to write a kindness pledge and have fun in the new 360 video photo booth, then share the results on their socials.
Sunset lovers can watch the sun slip into the sea, with the Good Tides Sunset Beach Club open from 4pm to 7pm. They can kick back and relax while still enjoying the party vibes thanks to a DJ, singer, drag performances, beach volleyball tournament and more. Larrakia Elder Richard Fejo will host a Saltwater Ceremony on the beach at 5pm.
With gates opening at 1pm and the fun lasting until midnight, Power and Water Refreshed will again be onsite to keep festival fans hydrated, with a chill-out zone complete with shade, water and phone recharge stations. And the famous Mindil Beach Sunset Markets will be back, with dozens of stalls ready to serve up delicious meals.
Everyone’s favourite, the Somersby Silent Disco, will return, and new BASS merch will be on sale on the day, with tees, hats and stubby coolers.
BASS travel partner Travello will have their selfie frame ready for those Instagram snaps with ticketholders encouraged to post on social media and tag BASSINTHEGRASS and Travello to go in the draw to win a scenic flight for two from Jabiru over Kakadu ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Park or a jetski tour around Darwin Harbour for two.
Travello is also offering a $50 voucher all General Admission and LA COCO ticket holders receive. Full details are on the website.
Final Release BASS tickets are on sale now for $140, plus booking fee, at [https://www.bassinthegrass.com.au]
Quotes from Northern Territory Major Events Company CEO Suzana Bishop:
“As well as enjoy music from some of Australia’s top performers, BASS festival-goers can enjoy a range of other activities throughout the day, to help make their BASS experience as memorable as possible. That includes one of the Territory’s most popular tourist attractions, the Mindil Beach Sunset Markets.
“It also includes a unique Saltwater Ceremony, which will help attendees celebrate the Territory’s Indigenous culture and the Larrakia land in which the event takes place.
“BASS is the largest music festival in the Northern Territory and provides an exciting space for people of all ages and abilities to come together. It’s good to see old favourites like the Silent Disco return, as well as new offerings.”
