A Liberals and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s Government will provide $380,000 in funding for the Snowfest event.
Snowfest is a local community event, with over 100 volunteers venturing into the mountains, and returning to Warragul with trucks of snow, bringing the magic of winter to the community’s doorstep.
The event brings joy to the local families and children who are unable to head to the snow, turning the centre of town into a winter wonderland.
Last year 15,000 people attended the event, with the money raised going to Baw Baw Food Relief, providing food for local families struggling with the rising cost of living.
The commitment will allow organisers to recruit more staff, help cover insurance costs and expand children’s events such as ice-skating and other snow related activities.
Shadow Minster for the Events Industry, David Southwick, said this was a beautiful commitment for the children and families of Warragul.
“This is a worthy announcement for a genuine community-led event, and is supporting Warragul’s most vulnerable at the same time.”
“Maybe you’ll see me in the dunking tank next winter if we’re elected in November.”
Liberal Candidate for Narracan, Wayne Farnham, said Snowfest brought the magic of snow to children of Warragul.
“Snow isn’t a common sight for many Australians, but Snowfest brings the joy of bobsledding, ice skating, snowmen and snowballs directly from the mountains to the community’s door.”
The ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s Candidate for Narracan, Shaun Gilchrist, said the funding will provide certainty to the future of the event.
“Snowfest is a fantastic event and this funding means it will not only continue but also grow, which benefits our community twofold by supporting families through the rising costs of living.”
