City of Mount Gambier invites the community to experience Christmas themed Augmented Reality (AR) around the city in the lead up to Christmas through three trails of festive animations viewable via smart phone.
There are six animations in three different trails at iconic tourist locations such as the Visitor Centre, Valley Lakes and Umpherston Sinkhole, the city centre and throughout the Railway Lands.
“With COVID-19 restrictions varying we wanted to provide a Christmas experience for the community that wouldn’t rely on large crowds and was something we haven’t had in Mount Gambier before,” The Riddoch Coordinator Talie Teakle said.
“Augmented reality through your phone is a fun way to bring some Christmas cheer in a new, innovative and COVID safe way.”
Large stickers have been placed around the city featuring QR codes that will direct users to download a free app called ‘Eyejack’ to launch the AR experience and view the magical Christmas animations.
You can even point your phone at your friends and film them interacting with Santa or reindeers, falling presents and snowglobes.

Brochures outlining the full list of 18 locations are available from the Civic Centre, The Riddoch Arts & Cultural Centre and the Mount Gambier Visitor Centre.
“We love that visitors to our tourist locations will be able to record each other interacting with Christmas animations against picturesque backdrops at Umpherston Sinkhole and the Blue Lake,” Senior Visitor Service Officer Mandy Telfer said.
“They’ll be able to keep those videos as a special Christmas keepsake, and upload them to social media with just one click.”
The experience will be on offer until 26 December 2020 and users are encouraged to share their videos on social media using the hashtag #christmas5290.
