In May 2023, Bayley House invited Billilla studio artist and environmental activist, Carolyn Cardinet, to facilitate a series of art workshops with nine Bayley Arts artists. The group were introduced to Cardinet’s collection of brightly coloured baling twine in pink, blue and yellow, to be repurposed into woven and knotted art forms.
The project involved considerable planning and preparation and thought-provoking discussions between the group about how we manage our waste, where our plastic waste ends up and what plastic is doing to our planet.
Plastic Problems takes you on the artists’ journey from their letter writing, gathering micro-plastics on the beach, and taking part in Bayside City Council’s ‘recycling education program’ to the challenges of weaving and pin-pricked drawings.
The incredible exhibition is currently on display in the foyer at Bayside Corporate Centre for you to enjoy until 2 February 2024.
