An outdoor art gallery featuring the work of local photographers has been unveiled in Dennys Place off Little Malop Street.
Geelong photographer Jane Fitzgerald’s “Laneway Photography Gallery” exhibit features a diverse portfolio of local artists, supported by a City of Greater Geelong COVID-19 Arts, Culture and Heritage Recovery Grant worth $7,000.
This exhibition showcases the incredible talent of 12 local photographic artists, including a mix of emerging and established photographers.
Music photographer Lucinda Goodwin’s edgy still life piece, amazing black and white street images from Michael Chambers and fine art printer Michael De Been’s images from his Japan travels are among the artworks on display.
In what is a difficult economic climate for many, the outdoor laneway gallery provides residents and visitors of all ages and backgrounds with free access to evocative, inspiring and thoughtful art in a convenient location.
Mayor Trent Sullivan
The exhibition on the side of Beav’s Bar is already enriching the fabric of our art scene, adding colour to our laneways and attracting visitors to central Geelong.
Whether you make a trip to Dennys Place or happen to pass by the outdoor gallery, Laneway Photography Gallery will capture your attention and have the same thought-provoking effect.
Council is a big supporter of the arts, so we’re thrilled to be able to help Geelong’s artists gain exposure – in fact for some of the artists involved, it’s their first time being exhibited in a public space!
Creativity and Culture chair, Councillor Melissa Cadwell
Our local arts scene is experiencing a revitalisation and this outdoor exhibit would be another step towards regaining that space.
By bringing photography outdoors, Laneway Photography Gallery is for all – newcomers to photographic art, local residents including people who might not otherwise get the chance to see this kind of art and tourists alike.
