The West Coast Council is seeking expressions of interest from a business, community group, or other organisation, to utilize Strahan’s iconic Union Steamship Building. The building holds an important place in Strahan’s history and is a beautiful structure in a perfect location for a variety of uses. Unfortunately, Council does not have the funds or expertise required to properly develop or operate this important building therefore we are seeking to partner with the private or community sector.
It is estimated that the capital costs of developing will be in the range of $1 million. Council is seeking expressions of interest from those who would undertake the capital works and then operate in return for long-term nominal rent occupation of the building. Council cannot fund the capital works. Council will not be providing financial support for the ongoing operations of the building.
Council currently seeks expressions of interest, but these do not need to be full proposals at this stage. Following the expression of interest process, Council will select a short list, or individual proponent to develop a full proposal for consideration.

- The Union Steamship Building Development Concepts with costings.
This expression of interest will close on Friday 20 May 2022 and should be marked ‘Union Steamship EOI’.
