The Victorian Government has provided more time for pool and spa owners to lodge Certificates of Barrier Compliance with Council.
In recognition of the limited opportunity for inspectors to visit homes during restrictions, pool and spa owners now have an additional 7 months for certificate lodgement.
All owners who had previous lodgement due dates of either 1 November 2021, 1 November 2022 or 1 November 2023, will be automatically transferred over to the new lodgement dates listed below. The lodgement dates are determined by the pool or spa construction completion dates.
Pool or spa construction completion date | New lodgement dates for Certificate of Compliance |
On or before 30 June 1994 | 1 June 2022 |
From 1 July 1994 – 30 April 2010 | 1 June 2023 |
From 1 May 2010 – 31 October 2020 | 1 June 2024 |
These pool and spa barrier safety requirements were introduced by the Victorian Government in December 2019, to save lives.
Non-compliant barriers are the biggest cause of accidental deaths of children in home pools. According to Life Saving Victoria, home pools are responsible for 40 per cent of drowning deaths in children under four. The most common causes of non-compliant barriers are faulty fence or gate, lack of fences, and gates left propped open.
Ensuring pool and barriers are compliant at all times is an important responsibility, and it will keep your family safe.
