The Territory Labor Government has welcomed the Australian Government handing down the independent strategic review of the Infrastructure Investment Program (IIP) which will see an additional $200 million towards upgrading and sealing the Tanami Road.
The project, which includes upgrading and sealing 150 kms of the Tanami Road in Central Australia and is expected to be completed by late 2025, is jointly funded by the Australian and Northern Territory Governments. The supplementary funding facilitates the sealing of additional sections of this crucial western corridor.
With the reviews conclusion, the Territory Government can now offer increased assurance for local industry on the pipeline of future projects, with a number of new projects to be released to market soon.
The major share of infrastructure funding in the Territory comes from the Australian Government and the Territory relies heavily on this funding to deliver infrastructure upgrades across our vast regions.
All States and Territories have maintained their funding in the pipeline that they previously had over the next 10 years with the Territory gaining an extra boost to complete the Tanami Road, which will improve connectivity, flood immunity, safety and access.
