An Extreme Fire Danger rating and Total Fire Ban has been declared for Thursday 21 February 2024 for the Surf Coast Shire.
As a result, key service impacts include:
- Kinder at Lorne, Anglesea and Jan Juc will close. This is based on advice from Department of Education which considers the ‘at risk’ rating of kindergartens. Kinders at Torquay and Winchelsea will remain open.
- Anglesea landfill and waste transfer station will close by 10am on Tuesday. Lorne transfer station does not open on Thursdays. Winchelsea transfer station will be closed.
- Kerbside waste collection services (red lid bin) and litter collection services will stop at 10am.
- The Lorne and Anglesea Visitor Information Centres will be closed, but a remote service will be offered by the Torquay Visitor Information Centre, which will remain open.
- No mobile library services will operate in the area. Torquay Library will remain open and is also identified as a facility available for those wanting to escape the heat as part of the Surf Coast Heat Plan.
- Torquay, being an urban area, has a lower risk profile than other areas in the shire so services that are closed elsewhere can continue in Torquay.
