FACEM Clare Skinner elected ACEM President-Elect

Clare has held the position of Director of Emergency Medicine at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital since 2015 and is also the clinical lead of the NSW COVID-19 response.

Clare has been a member of the Council of Advocacy, Practice and Partnerships (CAPP) and a range of other College committees and entities in recent years. She was appointed to the position of Deputy Chair of CAPP in 2019, and serves as a member of the College’s Diversity and Inclusion Steering Group and Health System Reform Committee. She is also a member of the Section Executive of the Advancing Women in Emergency Section.

ACEM President Dr John Bonning says Clare’s appointment is a great step forward for the College.

‘Clare has been a wonderful advocate for our specialty and the many communities involved in and served by that specialty. Her support by her peers reflects her strong relationships across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand and the respect and esteem with which she is held.

‘We congratulate Clare on her appointment and, on a personal note, I look forward to working with her as she assumes this new role.’

Dr Skinner will serve one year in this position and then assume the role of President for two years.

Dr Bonning also acknowledged candidates Associate Professor Didier Palmer and Dr Kim Hansen.

‘Didier and Kim were both equally outstanding candidates. We thank them for putting themselves forward – and for their exceptional passion and advocacy for emergency medicine.

‘Both Kim and Didier are heavily involved in College life, and we look forward to continuing to work with them.

Dr Skinner will take office at the 2020 Annual General Meeting of the College, which is to be held online on Wednesday 21 October 2020.
