Australia’s largest agricultural advocacy body will next week assemble a panel of experts to help secure the future of farming.
NSW Farmers President James Jackson said it was an important time to host the Securing the Future of Farming Forum as climate extremes, biosecurity threats, international trade disruptions and surging inflation were putting pressure on food security and families.
“The challenge of growing world-class food and fibre for people is more important than ever,” Mr Jackson said.
“This year we have seen how vital it is to have a strong farming sector and robust supply chains with floods causing chaos across the country.
“As the peak farming body for the state, we’re taking the lead in tackling these challenges head-on.”
An interactive panel of industry experts – including former Chief Scientist of NSW Professor Mary O’Kane AC who is also the Co-Chair of the 2022 NSW Flood Inquiry – will delve into the opportunities and challenges for NSW agriculture and agri-food industries, and look at the role strong farms will play in securing our state and national recovery from COVID-19.
“It’s crucial we put the best heads together to come up with the innovative solutions that will drive our sector – and our food security – forward,” Mr Jackson said.
“We’re also going to have Paul Dowler, the Chief Executive of the Regional Investment Corporation, Bayer’s head of digital farming Chris Staff, Thomas Elder Markets insights manager Andrew Whitelaw and Daniel Kao from WFI on the panel.
“I would encourage anyone with an interest in Securing the Future of Farming to come along to the event, take part in the discussions, and help build a stronger future for agriculture.”
