Three people have died in two separate crashes across the Territory.
A 10-year-old child died in a single vehicle crash at Groote Eylandt yesterday afternoon.
The boy was one of several children travelling in a Toyota 4-wheel-drive that rolled off road about 1:30pm. The other occupants self-extracted and one child was later transported to Gove Hospital for treatment.
The 52-year-old driver was arrested and flown to Darwin where he was treated in hospital for minor injuries.
Major Crash detectives have travelled to Alyangula to forensically examine the crash scene.
The man has been charged with:
- Drive Motor Vehicle Cause Death
- 4 counts of Recklessly Endanger Life (aggravated)
- Drive unlicensed
Two adults died in a single vehicle crash near a remote community north-west of Alice Springs overnight.
Just after 6:30am police received a report of the rollover crash involving a Holden sedan which occurred on the unsealed Kintore Road, approximately 80km east of Papunya.
Two people, a man and woman aged in their 40s were located at the crash scene, deceased.
Major Crash detectives have travelled to the crash scene. The investigation will determine whether alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.
