A 19 year old male German national has died following a single vehicle crash on Glenfern Road, Glenfern on Sunday the 8th day of December 2019.
The crash occurred at approximately 11.30am whilst the male was travelling north on a gravel section of Glenfern Road whilst driving a red 2000 Mazda 323 sedan.
The vehicle slid off the road whilst negotiating a right hand curve and impacted heavily with a tree. The male was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
It is believed the male was in Tasmania on a 12 month working visa. Police are currently working with interstate and overseas authorities to notify the man’s family.
Initial investigations suggest excessive speed for the corner has caused the vehicles loss of control. The use of alcohol or drugs are not suspected.
Police, Ambulance Tasmania, TFS and SES all attended the scene. Glenfern Road at the location of the crash was closed until 5pm whilst Police Forensic and Crash Investigation Services personnel investigated the scene. Traffic in the area was light with minimal disruption caused.
Anyone who observed the vehicle prior to the collision is asked to contact Senior Constable Adam HALL at Southern Crash Investigation Service on 62302111 or by contacting Crime Stoppers. Tasmania Police express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
