Premier Jeremy Rockliff has urged the Federal Government to get on and approve the Robbins Island wind farm.
Premier Rockliff, along with Energy and Renewables Minister Nick Duigan, has toured the island, discussed the project’s progress, and met with the island’s owners and the windfarm’s proponents.
“This is an important project for Tasmania,” Premier Rockliff said.
“It will be a massive boost for our renewable energy future.
“The Robbins Island wind farm continues the tradition of our Hydro pioneers.
“It will provide clean energy for tens of thousands of homes, create hundreds of jobs and drive billions of dollars of economic development for our state.
“The island owners have had a vision for over two decades to harness the world-class wind resource here and combine it with their successful beef cattle operation.
“We need to get this done.”
Minister for Energy and Renewables, Nick Duigan said Robbins is a hugely important project to grow Tasmanian’s renewable energy production.
“It will offset millions of tonnes of CO2 emissions from our atmosphere and provide the renewable energy Tasmania needs to grow and keep our power prices the lowest in the nation,” Minister Duigan said.
“The project has undergone among the most rigorous approvals processes in the world.
“It’s time to get on and build it.”
