Federation Council’s senior residents recently celebrated together at the ‘Something Old and Something New’ events as part of the NSW Seniors Festival.
‘Something Old’ was all about acknowledging a time gone by and will be held at Morundah Paradise Palladium Theatre on Wednesday 8th February.
Many guests brought along something old and shared their stories with their tables and friends.
The highlight of the day, was young vocalist Corowa Dylan Forge who entertained and worked the crowd with his special show of crooning classics and Broadway’s greatest hits.
Followed by a delicious lunch prepared by the Morundah Hotel staff with an old classic of rake of lamb and am amazing selection of old-fashioned desserts from Bread-and-Butter pudding to Sago Pudding!
As one resident said “The coach trip was good the food fabulous and the entertainment enjoyable.”
Further supported by another resident who said “It was lovely seeing the older community come together in their finery, reacquaint with known people, enjoy being entertained and spoilt with such wonderful food.”
‘Something New’ was about the future and was held at the Corowa RSL Club on Sunday, February 12.
Everyone worked up an appetite on the dance floor or tapping their feet with Anthony Tenace with his hits throughout the ages, before they sat down to a two-course senior’s lunch generously supported by the Corowa RSL Club.
Ageing Well Ambassadors, Jenny Enever and Liz Seeliger spoke about the benefits of the Gentle Exercise they run in Howlong and Mulwala along with the new Aqua Exercise classes for seniors at the Corowa Aquatic Centre and Howlong Public Swimming Pool.
Guests were transported to and from the events by Canns Bus Lines.
Federation Council Mayor, Cr Pat Bourke said Something Old Something New is a Federation Council imitative supported by the NSW Government and the Corowa RSL Club. Council works closely with the Federation Ageing Well Committee to develop age friendly events and activities.
“Federation Council is very grateful to have received a grant under the NSW Seniors Festival Grant Program along with a ClubGrant from the Corowa RSL Club to be able to support the 2023 Seniors Celebrations,” Mayor Bourke said.
“The two grants allowed Council to deliver two free events for our senior residents. The Council’s seniors’ celebrations are always a great opportunity for our senior residents to catch up with friends and celebrate the role they play and the valuable contributions they make to our community. Council would like to thank everyone involved in hosting and celebrating this much loved annual event.”
