Over the past 12 months, Federation Youth Council have been busy working alongside Council to implement an activity, open to the entire community that encourages youth to step outside and see the beauty of Federation Council towns.
Concerned with the continued issues of restrictions and lockdowns isolating our youngest residents, Federation Youth Council wanted to create an activity where everyone could step outside, have fun and still feel part of the community.
After brainstorming new ideas for the 2021 period, and presenting their annual report to Federation Councillors, gaining their support, Federation Youth Council came up with the project working alongside Council staff.
Federation Youth Councillor Maxim Blockley said the QR code Scavenger Trail is spread across the Council area, in the hopes of encouraging local and visiting families and young people to explore parts of the Council area, they may not have explored yet. The QR codes are located in family or youth driven areas in Corowa, Daysdale, Howlong, Lowesdale, Mulwala, Oaklands and Urana for the first launch, with hopes to continue to expand the trail further.
“By following the clues on our online Youth Hub map, it will help you to the general direction of the code, but not give it away too much. It’s all in the fun of finding the hidden code. We’ve even hidden little hints as to how to enter the awesome giveaways we will have during Youth Week 2022,” he said.
Youth Week will give the Scavenger Hunt participants, completing the QR code Scavenger Trail, two opportunities to enter some great giveaways, being draw 4th – 14th of April during Youth Week 2022.
Prizes include, wireless phone chargers, Youth Hub drink bottles, gift cars and the major prize is a Wonderboom 2 Wireless Speaker.
Youth Councillor Benjamin Black said having the Scavenger Hunt spread across the Federation Council area enables all youth and families, like us, to get out and explore all the other amazing towns we may not have been to before.
“I think the most amazing part is, it gives other people out hunting for the codes and clues, an opportunity to connect with other people along the way,” he said.
Federation Youth Council have also launched a GPS ‘easy way’ to find the codes. For any users unable to find the codes, download the Munzee app available on all app stores for free. Each Council code, is accompanied by a GPS located code, guiding you directly to them, when you’re close by.
Federation Youth Councillor Jacob Read said a lot of work has gone into this fun activity for the entire community to enjoy.
“Youth Council thought it would be a great activity to launch in time for summer,” he said. We really hope everyone steps out this summer, explores the Council area and has a go at hunting down the codes.”
The Youth Hub Scavenger Trail is a continuous trail that Federation Youth Council intend to expand in the months to come.
