Feedback on proposed Local Law 11 – Protection of Public Assets and Control of Building Sites

The City of Greater Bendigo is inviting residents to make comment on a draft new Local Law No 11 Protection of Public Assets and Control of Building Sites.

The former Local Law No. 11 expired on March 27, 2024 and must now be replaced.

City of Greater Bendigo Acting Manager Engineering Nathan Sartori said Local Law 11 relates to the protection of public assets from damage, deterioration or abuse during private construction work.

“It protects the neighbourhood and environment of the community during the construction process and relates to footpaths, kerb and channel, storm water drains and pits, vehicle crossings, nature strips, street trees and street signage,” Mr Sartori said.

“It’s important as it allows the City to regulate and protect community assets in road reserves from damage caused by private works.

“No changes have been made to the expired previous version of the law and the City is proposing to reinstate a new Local Law 11 until a major reform of all of the City’s Local Laws commences in 2027.”

Anyone wishing to provide their feedback can do so on the City’s community engagement Let’s Talk website from Monday April 22 until Friday May 17, 2024.

The proposed Local Law can be inspected on the Let’s Talk website or at the City of Greater Bendigo office at the Galkangu Gov Hub at 195-229 Lyttleton Terrace, Bendigo.
