Feel the Beat: Playford's Celebration of Ability Unites Community Through Music
March to the beat of your own drum and make your own noise – these are just some
of the points set to be shouted from the rooftops at the City of Playford’s Celebration
of Ability event for 2024.

As a lead-in to the International Day of People with Disability, Playford residents will converge at the Playford Civic Centre on Friday, 29 November for an evening of song and dance, featuring live music and inclusive music tech.

Attendees will have an opportunity to wear Haptic Vests, an innovative sensory technology which allows the wearer to feel music through vibrations.

This inclusive experience enables everyone, including those who are deaf or hard of hearing, to fully immerse themselves in the live performance.

Playford Celebration of Ability will be one of the first events in South Australia to utilise and raise awareness of this leading-edge technology.

Mayor Glenn Docherty welcomed the return of the event for 2024, describing it as one of the most anticipated events for inclusion on the Playford calendar.

“This year, we are hosting Celebration of Ability – Your Own Beat, an event centred around the universal language of music, showcasing the many ways people can share in their love of music,” said Mayor Docherty.

“The event brings the community together to connect in one place where everyone can feel the beat of the music in their own way.”

Music fans will have an opportunity to sing and dance along to rock anthem classics, with the popular cover band Flaming Sambucas headlining the event.

The evening will also include the International Day of People with Disability Mayoral Awards, which recognise people living with a disability and other local people or community groups who have contributed to improving outcomes for others with disability.

The categories include personal development, business/employment/education, sports/recreation/arts, and community services.

“We have a diverse range of nominations this year, with inspiring stories of individuals and groups who advanced access and inclusion in our community,” said Mayor Docherty.

Celebration of Ability – Your Own Beat will be held on Friday, 29 November, from 6.30 pm to 10 pm, with all awards presented as part of the event. Tickets are available through Eventbrite: $17.19 for general admission, $14.01 concession, and free entry for Companion Card holders.
