Football Federation Australia (FFA) is delighted that Westfield Matildas star Sam Kerr has been nominated for football’s highest individual honour, the Women’s Ballon d’Or for the second consecutive year.
FFA Chairman Chris Nikou said he was thrilled with the nomination.
“Our congratulations to Sam on this fantastic individual honour. Her performances for both the Westfield Matildas and her club teams – including Perth Glory in the Westfield W-League – have been of the highest quality.”
“Australian football is blessed to have a player of her quality both on and off the pitch. She is a wonderful ambassador for her club teams, the Westfield Matildas and women’s football the world over”, Mr Nikou said.
The 26 year-old Western Australian has had another outstanding year.

She claimed the golden boot with Perth Glory in the Westfield W-League last campaign as well as firing the Chicago Red Stars into the final of the United States NWSL, where she collected her third consecutive golden boot award to add to her collection.
In between dominating both leagues on either side of the Pacific, Sam became the first Australian to register a hat-trick at the FIFA World Cup Finals, scoring four goals against Jamaica in the Westfield Matildas’ run to the round of 16 in France.
FFA Chief Executive David Gallop AM believes Sam Kerr’s drive to improve every aspect of her game whenever she steps onto the pitch is the key to her success.
“Her focus in preparation and determination to make every moment on the pitch matter is what sets her apart.”
“Sam has become a shining example to all young Australian footballers that to be the best that you can be, you need to work as hard as you can. With that exemplary approach to her performance, she’ll just keep getting better and better,” Mr Gallop said.
The winner of this year’s Ballon d’Or will be announced in Paris on 2 December.
Australian football fans will get the opportunity to see the dual Ballon d’Or nominee when she takes to the pitch with her Westfield Matildas teammates in the upcoming series against Chile next month, with tickets still available for both matches.
