FFA releases Schools Football Workbook

Football Federation Australia (FFA) today announced it has released the Schools Football Workbook, an online and interactive football resource for Primary Schools, enabling teachers and students to learn from home.

The Workbook provides children with the opportunity to participate and become fans of football, and covers four main areas:

  • 1) ACTIVE. Focusing on Physical Literacy, this section is linked to the physical, psychological, social and cognitive domains, with students learning about healthy eating practices and good nutrition.
  • 2) EXPERIENCE. Based on FFA’s junior introductory program, MiniRoos, students can complete football skills and challenges via video-based learning, developing a range of movement skills to apply to football- specific situations.
  • 3) TRANSITION. This section focuses on transitioning to your local football club and the partnership with the state-based member federations.
  • 4) FANS. Students can complete interactive projects and download fun posters and wallpaper as they learn about the Hyundai A-League, Westfield W-League, the Socceroos and Westfield Matildas.

FFA Chief Executive James Johnson said he was delighted with the Schools Football Workbook and praised the partnership approach that enabled its production.

This is an important piece of work to bring football to the classroom via an interactive, digital resource that will prove invaluable to primary schools as they work through the COVID-19 situation. It will enable boys and girls to remain connected with football, while staying active, healthy and happy.”

“We have taken a whole of game approach in the development of the workbook and I’d like to acknowledge the great contribution the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League clubs and the member federations make in the schools’ space, and the effort they’ve put into this project alongside FFA.

“This workbook will complement the work our stakeholders undertake with schools and will enhance football’s future delivery model.

“We may be moving to a relaxation of social isolation measures over the coming weeks, but we believe this workbook will be of great benefit to schools, teachers and students long after the coronavirus pandemic is over.”

Sport Australia (SA) Deputy General Manager Participation James Ceely said SA endorsed the Schools Football Workbook and praised football for being a leader in this space.

“It’s great to see Football Federation Australia embedding physical literacy into resources for schools,” Ceely said.

“Through these fun and engaging football activities, children can develop the skills, behaviours and attitudes they need to be physically active for life.”
