Artists from across the Nation have until May 19 to enter one of Australia’s most prestigious art prizes.
The Sunshine Coast National Art Prize boasts a $35,000 prize pool and is open to Australian contemporary artists working in any 2D medium and in new media.
Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Rosanna Natoli said the Art Prize was a flagship for the region and was well recognised across the country for reflecting the outstanding calibre of 2D and new media arts practice in Australia.
“Sunshine Coast Council has once again cast the net wide, encouraging entries from the best contemporary artists in Australia,” Mayor Natoli said.
“Each year we receive an awe-inspiring collection of works from both renowned and emerging Australian artists, and with just a few days to go, 2024 is shaping up to be the same.
“The winning work will be entered into the Sunshine Coast Art Collection, our region’s ambitious, dynamic and vibrant collection of works and a cultural legacy for future generations to enjoy.”
The 40 artworks selected as finalists will be from August 24 to October 13, 2024.
Caloundra Regional Gallery Curator Jo Duke said the unique acquisitive prize provided the winner and finalists exposure to vast and diverse audiences.
“The 40 finalists receive national promotion and a wealth of exposure before, during and after the seven-week physical and online exhibition,” Ms Duke said.
“Once again, the cost of freight for finalists is covered by International Art Services and the gallery, reducing the financial burden on artists.”
