Construction of the last component of the Changing Places Facility and Accessible Transport Hub in Bicentennial Park is now complete, with a new shelter providing weather protection for users at the accessible parking spaces.
The Accessible Transport Hub provides convenient accessible parking for residents and community transport service providers, while the Changing Places Facility helps many residents living with a chronic illness, disability or those in advanced age feel more comfortable to visit the CBD.
The facility’s location in Bicentennial Park near the No. 1 Cricket Oval was chosen due to its close proximity to Peel Street shops, allowing residents to utilise the nearby pedestrian crossing before travelling through Fitzroy Street.
Tamworth region Mayor Russell Webb said that the shelter was the final piece of a wonderful recent addition to the Tamworth CBD.
“The facility and accessible parking spaces have been really appreciated by disabled and elderly residents and their carers since it was completed last year, and it is great to now add an all-weather shelter to help these residents access and enjoy Peel Street and Bicentennial Park”, he said.
Minister for Regional NSW Tara Moriarty said the completion of the Accessible Transport Hub will make the Tamworth CBD accessible for all.
“Access to dignified and equitable spaces like this allows locals, families, carers or visitors to get to the shops and local park more freely, and it will go a long way in making Tamworth CBD accessible and inclusive for all,” Ms Moriarty said.
