Finalists announced for 2021 Australian Training Awards

The shining stars of Australia’s skills sector are being recognised at the 2021 Australian Training Awards, with 75 finalists announced today.

The Australian Training Awards shine a spotlight on outstanding individuals, businesses and registered training organisations who demonstrate best practice and innovation in the nation’s booming vocational education training (VET) sector.

Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business, Stuart Robert MP, said the annual awards are an opportunity for the community to celebrate the skills, commitment and professionalism of Australia’s vibrant VET sector.

‘The Australian Training Awards give us a chance to recognise the significant achievements of our apprentices, trainees, teachers, practitioners, employers and registered training providers,’ Minister Robert said.

‘After such a difficult year for so many people, it is really exciting to know that the future of Australia’s skills sector is in such capable hands.

‘Creating more opportunities for Australians to upskill and reskill in areas of growth and demand is at the heart of our Economic Recovery Plan as we build back from COVID-19, and that’s why we are backing the VET sector with a record investment of $6.4 billion this financial year.’

The Australian Training Awards, which will be a virtual event on 18 November, will see state and territory award winners compete for the national title. Additionally, the first recipient of the new Outstanding Achievement in VET and Skills Sector Award will be named. The award is presented in recognition of an individual’s outstanding leadership and contribution to the VET and skills sector for more than 15 years.

Assistant Minister for Youth and Employment Services, the Hon Luke Howarth MP, said the strong national VET sector is equipping Australians with the skills employers need now and into the future.

‘These awards showcase the best in trades and skills, from electrotechnology and carpentry to hairdressing, hospitality and cyber security,’ Assistant Minister Howarth said.

‘I congratulate all the finalists for their achievements and for the contribution they are making to the pursuit of excellence in technical and skills education.’
