Five Shoalhaven residents have been selected to form part of a new finance committee that will help advise Council on its financial sustainability.
Following the resolutions of Council (14 October and 28 October 2024), Council voted to appoint one Councillor from each ward to the committee, and for the Mayor to appoint five community members to the Finance Review Panel, in consultation with the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer.
“I’m pleased to announce the finalisation of our Finance Review Committee. The community members were carefully selected due to their demonstrated financial experience and acumen, and I am confident they will do an outstanding job in assisting the organisation to get its budget back in the black,” said Mayor Patricia White.
“Establishing this committee is an important step to ensure we are remaining transparent and listening to the community, as we work towards addressing our financial challenges,” she said.
Council appointed Cr Jason Cox (Ward 1), Cr Jemma Tribe (Ward 2) and Cr Karlee Dunn (Ward 3) to the committee.
Mayor Patricia White subsequently appointed Deputy Mayor Peter Wilkins and selected five residents to represent the community on the panel:
- Keith Brodie
- Stuart Coughlan
- Ian (Sandy) Foreman
- Peter Dun
- Mark Crowther.
The committee members were selected after being interviewed by the mayor. The mayor also considered their resumes, professional qualifications and undertook further consultation with community prior to appointing the successful candidates.
The individuals also submitted self-assessment statements declaring they are fit and proper applicants.
The committee held an informal workshop on Monday 11 November with the induction process underway ahead of the committee’s first official meeting to be scheduled soon.
