Looking for ways to relax and reduce anxiety without spending a fortune? Check out the latest additions to Sunshine Coast Council’s Healthy Sunshine Coast program.
Salute the sun at a low-cost yoga class at Lake Kawana or sign up for a low-cost mindfulness and meditation course at Coolum.
The seven-week introductory mindfulness and meditation course in Coolum begins on October 15 and is being offered at a subsidised cost of $65 per person.
Suitable for adults of all ages, the course will include a mix of presentations, guided instruction and the opportunity to practice different relaxation and meditation techniques.
Sunshine Coast Council Division 9 councillor Stephen Robinson encouraged people to sign up.
“The first Healthy Sunshine Coast mindfulness course, held earlier in the year, was very popular and sold out quickly so we are pleased to offer another opportunity for people to participate, this time in Coolum,” Cr Robinson said.
“With our daily lives increasingly packed full of work, parenting and other commitments, this course offers valuable ways to learn new skills to improve sleep, manage anxiety, increase concentration and gain a more healthy perspective on life.”
Community Portfolio councillor Jenny McKay said people looking for ways to relax and unwind should also consider taking part in the new weekly low-cost community yoga which started this week. Offered in partnership with Venue 114, sessions are taking place at the Lakeside Stage between 6-7am Thursdays until November 28.
Classes are $5 and you can register and pay online or pay cash on the day.
Cr McKay said the classes were suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
“Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced yogi, starting your day with a class overlooking the beautiful Lake Kawana is a great way to get some exercise, have some fun and meet some new people,” Cr McKay said.
“Yoga is also known to have positive mental health benefits and is a wonderful way to relax.”
