An Altona North construction services company which took a short cut to dumping waste sludge has been fined a total of $15,385 by EPA Victoria.
Allism Construction Services Pty Ltd was caught twice in a week discharging liquid wastes to roadsides in Huntly near Bendigo.
The first offence was reported on 31 January 2024 when up to 1,000 litres of liquid waste was discharged at Pitt St, Huntly. And on 6 February 2024, waste taken from pumping out NBN pits was discharged to Millwood Rd, Huntly.
“Allism has been previously investigated for this kind of offence, so it will know that this kind of waste has the potential to cause harm and that they have a duty as a business to manage this waste appropriately to protect the environment. A fine is appropriate for this obviously deliberate behaviour,” said EPA North West Manager Paul Ratajczyk.
“EPA became aware of the issue when members of the community called us. The public are our best eyes and ears. If you see or suspect someone is creating pollution and harming our environment, call us on 1300 372 842 or online at “
