A failure to supply information to EPA Victoria in line with an official notice has cost a transport company a fine of $9,615.
EPA issued an Information Gathering Notice to the Kaduki Group Pty Ltd as part of an investigation into the alleged abandonment of industrial waste in shipping containers at a container yard in Truganina.
The waste, which was waste tyres tied in a bale, will need to be taken to a licensed facility for disposal.
EPA can order a company or an individual to provide information to assess compliance with the Environment Protection Act 2017.
“Some people may not at first realise we have that legal authority, though we go to great lengths to ensure they do understand what’s required of them,” EPA Western Metropolitan Acting Regional Manager Sam Sparks said.
“So, choosing not to provide the information we asked for has cost Kaduki nearly $10,000,”
