The Country Fire Authority has declared the Fire Danger Period for the municipality of Macedon Ranges Shire will begin at 1am on Monday 14 December, 2020.

Once the Fire Danger Period comes into effect, fire restrictions come into force.

This means you cannot light a fire in the open air unless you have a permit or comply with certain requirements.

Council’s Director Planning and Environment, Angela Hughes said: “If you live or work close to grassland, parks or paddocks, you could be at risk of fire this summer.”

Ms Hughes reminded residents of the importance of being prepared for bushfire.

“You need to keep leaf litter, shrubs and any other fuels to a minimum under trees on your property. This will help to stop a fire from reaching the tree tops, which will reduce embers and the fire intensity near your home. “Prevention is everyone’s responsibility. Early action can prevent fires threatening lives and property. If you see smoke or fire, call Triple Zero (‘000’) immediately and if you see something suspicious, call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

To assist residents with cleaning up their properties, green waste disposal is available free at Council transfer stations this summer.

To access Council’s free green waste disposal service you must be a ratepayer or tenant within Macedon Ranges Shire and must provide evidence of residence such as an original rates notice or driver’s license.

Transfer stations are located in Kyneton, Romsey and Woodend and will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and Total Fire Ban Days. To check your local transfer station’s opening days and hours, visit
