CFA is launching an upgrade to its subscriber email service allowing users to tailor the fire safety information and advice they receive.
MyCFA lets subscribers choose what topics and categories they want to receive to best suit their home environment, work, lifestyle and hobbies.
CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said the information available covered many topics including fire safety advice for travelling or how and where to install smoke alarms.
“Having a plan and knowing how to prepare your property is critical information for all Victorians,” CO Heffernan said.
“While general in nature, MyCFA emails are most suited to Victorian areas and are based on legal requirements relating to fire risk.
“MyCFA is also a great way to get up to date information about Total Fire Bans and Fire Danger Periods in your area as well.”
MyCFA lets subscribers choose what topics and categories most interest them, so they only receive information that’s relevant to their personal circumstances and interests.
“This is an extra value-add offered by CFA which is free of charge and obligation free,” said Chief Officer Jason Heffernan “It’s just another way CFA supports the community to prepare for fire.
“We will be asking our 1,200+ brigades to encourage to their community members to sign up so they can receive detailed safety information on a range of topics which are relevant to the way they live and work and their leisure activities.
“Most brigades have a Facebook page and this is a great opportunity to provide advice on a range of fire safety risks.”
Created in 2015, MyCFA has more than 27,000 subscribers who receive on average up to six emails a year including place-based notifications such as commencement of Fire Danger Periods and when Total Fire Ban days are called.
Paul Harris, Team Leader Community Engagement & Program Development, was one of the original architects of MyCFA and said the idea behind the service was to create long-term relationships with individuals and the communities CFA serves.
“The aim was to move from a purely transactional interaction with individuals to a more relational experience with tailored touchpoints and interactions on an ongoing basis,” Paul said.
Until recently CFA sent subscribers general information on broad fire prevention and safety topics. Current subscribers will be asked to update their preferences in the coming weeks.
All new subscribers can complete their preferences in the MyCFA Preference Centre as part of the signup process.
