Firearm incident in Greenslopes, QLD

Police have charged a 50-year-old Greenslopes man following investigations into an incident at a Greenslopes bottle shop.

Police will allege the man was refused service when he entered the Logan Road store at around 2.40 pm today whereupon the man became threatening towards the customer service staff.

Staff allegedly calmed the man down and he left the store.

At around 6.20 pm the man is alleged to have returned to the store and spoke to a new staff member who advised the New Farm man he would not be served.

Police will allege the man pulled a replica firearm from his bag and threatened the staff member with it, verbally abusing the staff member.

A 24-year-old Holland Park man witnessed the incident and intervened, taking the 50-year-old to the ground and holding him there until police arrived a short time later.

The weapon was later confirmed to be a replica.

Police have charged a 50-year-old man with one count each of threats and going armed to as to cause fear. He is due to face the Brisbane Magistrates Court on January 7.
