The Rockliff Liberal Government’s $7 million Launceston Police Station upgrade has delivered modern, fit-for-purpose facilities for Tasmania’s largest 24/7 police station.
This project forms part of the Rockliff Liberal Government’s $87.3 million investment to upgrade police stations and houses around Tasmania.
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, took a tour of the refurbished Station today.
“The Launceston Police Station is Tasmania’s largest 24/7 station with over 100 police personnel available to support northern Tasmania. With the significant increase in police numbers, 334 additional police, our Government is building the future facilities to accommodate extra police,” Minister Ellis said.
“Launceston Police Station has an additional 28 officers under the Liberal Government so it’s critical the Station provides a modern workplace for our hardworking police, as well as comfortable facilities for the local community when they report crime.”
Improvements to the Launceston Police Station, which was built in 1977, include a new charge suite and interview rooms, improved office spaces, and a new welcoming and spacious customer service area.
The improvements also include facilities upgrades to the core network infrastructure, roofing works, generator replacements, fully-accessible bathrooms and upgrades to electrics.
“The upgrade of the Launceston Police Station has been delivered to budget and has supported Tasmanian businesses and contractors, with HBV Architect responsible for the principal design and Premium Constructions, a Launceston-based contractor, undertaking the major works,” Minister Ellis said.
“The Launceston Police Station upgrade is part of the Rockliff Liberal Government’s $87.3 million police station capital program. Other projects delivered include the $5 million Longford Police Station, the $5 million New Norfolk Police Station, the $6.5 million.”Emergency Management Centre, the $12 million Sorell Emergency Service Hub and $4.6 million in the north and south of the State for our Special Operations Group.
Works continue on upgrades to $12.5 million to upgrade Bridgewater Police Station, $7.5 million for a new station at St Helens, and the $1 million upgrade at Rosebery Police Station.
