The Allan Labor Government has released the first designs of the new Boronia Station precinct which will deliver more green spaces and better connections for the local community.
Locals are encouraged to have their say on the Boronia Station Upgrade designs – with works set to ramp up later next year.
Travelling between Boronia Station and the Dorset Road shopping precinct will be safer and easier, with a new landscaped plaza created to connect locals directly to the upgraded station precinct.
The new plaza will include landscaping, seating and lighting – and will be an inviting public space that will connect directly to a new pedestrian crossing for safe access across Dorset Road.
There will be improvements to the platform including upgrades to station furniture, shelters, and toilets, as well as updates to the passenger waiting room.
The ticket office and Protective Services office will also be relocated to improve the station entries and allow the station concourse to be widened, improving access over the rail line.
New canopies over the entrances will be added and an updated pick-up and drop-off area along Lupton Way will be built – with works on the Boronia Station Upgrade to be complete in 2026.
Building better pedestrian connections and new open space around Boronia Station will support future growth and more homes across this booming community.
This project follows works completed earlier this year to make the Lilydale Line level crossing free, and the Belgrave Line boom gate free between Ferntree Gully and the city.
The Level Crossing Removal Project is removing 110 level crossings by 2030, and making the Lilydale, Sunbury, Pakenham, Cranbourne, Frankston and Werribee lines boom gate free – changing the way people live and travel.
As stated by Minister for Transport Infrastructure Danny Pearson
“We’re getting on with upgrading the Boronia Station precinct, making it easier for people to access local shops, buses, schools and places to eat.”
“As we continue to approve more homes than anywhere else in the country, the Boronia Station Upgrade will pave the way for future growth and development in the local community.”
As stated by Member for Bayswater Jackson Taylor
“This is the biggest investment by any Government into Boronia in a generation, it’s what locals asked for and I’m stoked that we’re going to deliver an incredible outcome that Boronia absolutely needs and deserves”.
“I know the community can’t wait to see the project complete, as it is going to completely transform the heart of our suburb and improve accessibility for people using the station.”
