The Gold Coast’s answer to Central Park is starting to take shape with construction underway at the Greenheart site in Robina to create a 252-hectare park.
Mayor Tom Tate today viewed the progress made on Greenheart’s first stage which is the beginning step of the largest open space and recreational facility project ever undertaken by the City.
“Greenheart will be the signature park for not just the Gold Coast but the entire south-east Queensland corner,” Mayor Tate said.
“This first stage will provide a much-needed recreation space with playgrounds, barbecues, picnic area, events lawn and water play area for our growing population.
“The $21.5 million first stage, expected to be completed in early 2025, will transform the site to an area of natural beauty mixed with contemporary design.
“The finished 252-hectare parkland will straddle Robina and Merrimac and will be six times larger than the Broadwater Parklands, or about, two-thirds the size of New York’s Central Park.”
The first construction work on the 17-hectare first stage on Stadium Drive, Robina began in May this year, focusing on site investigations and preparations.
The first stage includes:
- A fully fenced playground for children
- Water play area with water pumps and weir gates for leaf boat racing, building dams and sand play
- Yoga lawn
- Café building and separate amenities which will include accessible toilets and a Changing Places facility
- Barbecues, picnic tables and shelters
- Events lawn
- Balls sports area
- Outdoor gym
- Scooter and bike track
- Fenced dog off-leash area with agility equipment, seating, and shade trees
- Car parking and bus set down area.
