Five Shoalhaven communities can now look forward to warmer places to meet, exercise and worship this winter thanks to brand new reverse cycle air-conditioning units recently installed in five community centres.
Shoalhaven City Council recently received 100 percent grant funding of $43,605, from the NSW State Government, to install air conditioning units in community centres in Bomaderry, Culburra, Callala Beach, Callala Bay & Sussex Inlet.
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley said “Community centres are important meeting places for the community to gather to undertake recreational, leisure and community service activities.
“The range of community groups that will benefit at the five locations include residents of all ages, to participate in diverse activities like ballroom rock and roll dancing, playgroup, meals on wheels, karate and church meetings, to name a few,” said Clr Findlay.
“Of course, none of these groups have been able to meet in recent weeks due to the temporary closure of community halls in line with current health regulations regarding social distancing. But with the recent road map to easing restrictions announced, we look forward to reopening Council’s Community centres when it is safe to do so,” she said.
The decision about which centres would receive the units were made in consultation with the Community Consultation Bodies and other stakeholders.
