Police charged five people with drink driving in Hobart on Friday night as part of random breath testing operations.
Inspector Kathy Bennett said a 20-year-old man from Old Beach returned a reading of 0.131, almost three times the legal limit.
“He was just one of several motorists who were caught drink driving between about 11pm and 1:30am on Friday night,” she said.
“A 32-year-old man from Tranmere, a 25-year-old woman from Lindisfarne, a 52-year-old man from Howrah and a 53-year-old man from Warrane were also caught well over the limit, with readings ranging from 0.074 to 0.118.”
“It’s extremely frustrating for police when people continue to take these risks, we want everyone to get home safe.”
“If you’re having a drink, plan another way home – it’s simply not worth it.”
“Remember when you’re out and about, police are too and if you’re drink driving, or speeding, or being unsafe in any way, we’ll be looking out for you.”
