The AMA pays its respects to prominent rheumatologist Alex Klestov – a dedicated doctor who lost his life in the flood tragedy on Australia’s east coast.
This week AMA member Dr Alex Klestov as one of the 13 people who died in Queensland’s extreme flooding. Dr Klestov was a dedicated rheumatologist who became trapped in floodwaters on his way home to Brisbane after treating patients in Rockhampton.
His son Peter said his father had wanted to retire about a decade ago but was concerned about his patients and shortage of rheumatologists in Queensland, particularly in regional areas.
Dr Klestov’s area of expertise was in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal pain and associated dysfunction.
Dr Klestov epitomises the dedication doctors have to care for our community and the pressure they remain under.
