Floral installations will bring life and colour to Melbourne’s streets this spring, with large-scale blooms popping up in laneways, on buildings, and in prominent public locations to attract people back to the city to support local businesses.
Urban Blooms is being delivered by the City of Melbourne and the Victorian Government through the $100 million Melbourne City Recovery Fund.
The 18 floral installations will create a bright path through the city, encouraging people to walk past and pose for a photo over a two-week period between Saturday 14 November 2020 and Friday 27 November 2020.
City landmarks and streets to be adorned with flowers include Flinders Street Station, Melbourne’s GPO, Degraves Street, the Regent Theatre, Hosier Lane, Rialto, the North Melbourne Post Office, Crossley Street Chinatown, the Old Treasury Building, the Arts Centre, District Docklands and locations at Carlton, Collins Street and Southbank.
The City of Melbourne, the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show and floristry consultant Elizabeth Ricci from Melbourne Flower Merchant have commissioned local florists to create a spectacular display at each location. Florists include Flowers Vasette, Flower Temple, Botanics Melbourne, Queen St Florist, Cecilia Fox, The Road Stall, Casa Verde, Georgie Boy Flowers and Katie Marx.
