Flu vaccinations are now available through Swan Hill Rural City Council.
The vaccine is strongly recommended for older people, pregnant women and those who work or live with people at risk, but anyone can book in to receive the vaccine. The vaccine lasts up to one year and helps avoid illnesses that might arise from the influenza virus.
Council Public Health and Regulatory Services Coordinator Trish Ficarra said now was the ideal time to be vaccinated.
“With the coronavirus pandemic, now is the time to protect yourself, your loved ones and to ease the burden of flu on our health system,” Ms Ficarra said.
She said the flu vaccine would be available at immunisation sessions at the Swan Hill Town Hall – at regular sessions and special additional sessions. She said Council had a large number of flu vaccines available and bookings were available now.
“We have a range of days and times available, including morning and evening sessions. We have put social distancing measures in place as well as additional cleaning, and we will be taking payment by card only,” Ms Ficarra said.
Anyone who wants the vaccine must call Council’s Public Health Services Department to book their place. The cost is $25 per vaccine for those aged 5 to 64, and free for all other ages.
