Australia’s peak body of tourism organisations, the Australian Chamber-Tourism welcomes reports today that the Government has announced a new campaign to attract more working holidaymakers to Australia.
Australian Chamber-Tourism Executive Chair, John Hart said, “Working holidaymakers are an important component of our visitor and labour market. The program encourages cultural exchange and closer ties between Australia and participating countries while at the same time creating jobs in the Australian economy.”
“The number of working holidaymakers from the United Kingdom, France and Germany has declined by more than 5 percent year on year. We hope the Australia Inc campaign reverses this trend.
“The flexibility and value of working holidaymakers to the seasonal labour needs of Australian businesses, especially in the regions is substantial.
“Seasonal work is often not attractive to young unemployed Australians who want long-term employment solutions. The working holidaymaker program delivers enthusiastic and mobile young workers to regions where labour is most needed and valued.
“We have made the case to support and grow Australia’s working holidaymaker program in our migration policy paper, , which maintains that the program is a key component of Australia’s migration system.”
