Food And Green Waste Bin Reminder

Ensuring contaminates such as plastic don’t end up in your food and green waste bin is essential for a smooth composting process.

Bayside residents have received flyers from Sustainability Victoria as a reminder to monitor what you are placing in your food and green waste bins.

Plastic items, like non-compostable caddy liners and bagged general rubbish, won’t break down in the composting process. They are difficult to remove and can cause materials that could have been recycled to be sent to landfill.

A small act like correctly sorting your food scraps and garden clippings can make a big impact. When we use our food and green waste bin correctly, food scraps and garden clippings can be given a second life and be recycled into mulch and compost. Also, correctly sorting food scraps and garden clippings helps keep them out of landfill where they create harmful greenhouse gases.
