With only 14 days to go before the world’s biggest standalone women’s tournament kicks off, Football Australia has today announced a partnership with the iconic Royal Australian Mint (The Mint).
The partnership will see a range of CommBank Matildas coins released exclusively from Woolworths stores across Australia.
Football Australia CEO, James Johnson: “The Royal Australian Mint has a history of beautifully capturing quintessentially Australian stories and sporting moments. With the long history of the CommBank Matildas and the upcoming historic moment, it seemed only fitting that we would partner together to immortalise a piece of Australian history.”
“Never before have CommBank Matildas fans and Australians had so many avenues to display and enjoy their support of the team and in the coming weeks we will be delighted to add these unique collectibles through this partnership with The Mint.”
Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities and Treasury, The Hon. Dr Andrew Leigh, said he was delighted the Mint was releasing this new set of collectable coins to celebrate the CommBank Matildas.
“It’s great to see these new coins celebrating the CommBank Matildas. It’s sometimes said that you can’t be what you can’t see. Having a range of coins that kids can collect helps connect them directly to the Matildas we all admire,” Dr Leigh said.
Each of the $2 coins includes a coloured circle encompassing a football and the team’s year of establishment, 1978. The $1 coins feature a different illustration of players defending, striking and goalkeeping, with the inscription ‘Australian Women’s ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Football Team’.
Woolworths, as the exclusive destination for the CommBank Matildas’ coins, are pleased to help fans show their support for the CommBank Matildas and celebrate Australia’s national women’s football team as they prepare to take on the world.
