People are at the heart of successful industries and the Tasmanian Liberal Government welcomes today’s launch of the forest sector’s first-ever Diversity Action Plan.
Our sustainable forestry sector is a powerhouse of the economy, injecting more than $1.2 billion annually into the Tasmanian economy and supporting around 5700 direct and indirect jobs – many in rural and regional areas of the State.
The Plan aims to attract more women and those from culturally diverse backgrounds to the industry, ensuring that it has the best possible mix of people as it takes advantage of the opportunities of the future.
Delivered by the Tasmanian Forests and Forest Products Network (TFFPN), the Plan has been supported with $300,000 funding from the Tasmanian Liberal Government, delivering on a 2021 election commitment.
Embracing and encouraging diversity is an important component of growing the Tasmanian forest industry’s workforce both now and into the future.
The Plan outlines the benefits of attracting and retaining a diverse workforce and sets out a pathway for industry to achieve this vision.
With the increasing demand for wood and fibre to help build houses, furniture and other everyday items or manufacture environmentally friendly packaging and in the context of a low carbon economy, the future is bright for our sustainable forestry industry.
There are so many opportunities in our forest industry right across the State and the Tasmanian Liberal Government will continue to back this important, sustainable industry to the hilt.
I congratulate TFFPN on delivering the Plan on behalf of Government and look forward to seeing it roll out in the coming months.
