Former teacher charged with carnal knowledge, NSW

The media are reminded that, under Section 11 of the Children (Criminal Proceedings) Act 1987, information that names or identifies a child victim of crime is not to be published or broadcast.

A man has been charged as part of ongoing investigations into alleged historic sexual assaults and student/teacher relationships on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

In July 2018, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad established Strike Force Southwood to identity and investigate allegations of sexual assaults and student/teacher relationships at high schools on Sydney’s Northern Beaches in the 1970s and 1980s.

Following extensive investigations, a 70-year-old man attended Surry Hills Police Station just after 12pm today (Thursday 20 June 2019).

He was charged with carnal knowledge- teacher of girl between the ages of 10 and 17.

Police will allege in court the man engaged in carnal knowledge with a female student, then aged 16, in 1980.

The man has been granted strict conditional bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 8 August 2019.

Investigations under Strike Force Southwood continue.

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
