The proposed redevelopment of the Police-Citizens Youth Clubs (PCYC) Queensland’s Fortitude Valley facility has taken a major step forward with the development approval for the project granted.
The DA is for a four-storey PCYC facility and a 12-storey commercial tower on the existing PCYC site at 458 Wickham Street, Fortitude Valley.
Minister for State Development Cameron Dick said the two-stage development would create more than 160 construction jobs and will be fully funded by Silverstone Developments.
“This is a big step forward for what’s set to be a major job-creating project for the city,” Mr Dick said.
“Our government’s is pleased to be working with Silverstone to deliver a new facility that will extend the services already offered by the club, to the benefit of PCYC Queensland members and Fortitude Valley locals.
“Once completed, the revitalised facility will support around 20 jobs, while hundreds more will eventually be housed in the commercial tower.
“This is a great outcome for a club that’s been a part of the social fabric of Fortitude Valley since 1965.”
Plans for the 12-storey commercial tower include a café, three floors of carparking, eight floors of office space and a communal rooftop area.
Member for McConnel Grace Grace said construction was anticipated to begin in the first half of the year.
“PCYC Fortitude Valley will remain operational during construction work, which will allow club members to continue using the services offered,” Ms Grace said.
“The club plays an important role in fostering the development of local young people through sports, development and leadership activities, and crime-prevention.
“The redevelopment will see greater use of the site while ensuring the club remains an iconic part of the local landscape.
“This will be a great outcome for jobs and our community, and I thank the stakeholders integral in us reaching this important milestone.”
In addition to club members and local residents, the new facility will also be made available to the newly opened Fortitude Valley State Secondary College, with multi-purpose spaces for suitable for basketball, gymnastics, fitness activities and more.
Silverstone Developments Managing Director Troy Daffy said the company, based in Fortitude Valley, was excited to move closer towards delivering an exciting new space for Fortitude Valley.

PCYC Queensland CEO Phil Schultz said the new facility would allow the organisation to enhance their services for the local community.
“PCYC Fortitude Valley was established in 1965 and today is one of PCYC Queensland’s oldest clubs,” Mr Schultz said.
“These purpose-built facilities will ensure PCYC Fortitude Valley will continue to be an iconic part of the local landscape.”
