Forum Hears Industry Vision For TAFE Gippsland

  • Minister for Training and Skills

Local businesses and industry have shared their views on the exciting future for skills training in Gippsland, as work progresses to provide two major TAFE training campuses for the region, following the Andrews Labor Government’s massive investment to re-energise the TAFE system across Victoria.

TAFE Gippsland and the Committee for Wellington this week held a stakeholder forum in Sale, detailing the progress of a new $25 million TAFE campus for Port of Sale.

The forum drew on the first-hand perspective of local businesses and industries to determine how TAFE Gippsland will train students, giving them the in-demand skills Gippsland businesses need to grow.

The forum discussed results from a recent community consultation process, and provided feedback on the technical skills Gippsland workers need to make the region thrive.

The forum identified a number of priorities including making career pathways more visible for prospective students and a desire for more courses to be offered locally, including courses to upskill and retrain workers for local jobs.

TAFE Gippsland will continue to engage with the feedback of local businesses and industries to ensure its new facilities and course offerings will be fit-for-purpose, with the equipment and technical training needed to make students job ready.

The Labor Government has also invested $35.5 million to upgrade the TAFE’s campus in Morwell, which will have a Future Skills Training Centre and a Technical Training Centre of Excellence to provide further learning pathways for students, giving them the sought after skills Gippsland industries are looking for.

Victorian architects GHD Woodhead Architecture were recently appointed to design the $60.5 million projects.

The Labor Government is delivering the biggest change to TAFE and skills training in Victoria’s history and supporting Gippsland to build the facilities it needs to reap the benefits.
