Four New Council Committees: Bayside

Bayside Council has approved four new Council Committees to give Councillors and the community more opportunity to provide feedback on Council programs, policies and issues.

Following the election of the new Council the existing structure of committees and advisory groups was reviewed by Councillors and a new framework, to be in place by March 2022, was adopted.

This new committees approved at a Council Meeting on Wednesday 9 February are:

  • City Services
  • City Planning & Environment
  • City Works & Assets
  • Corporate Performance

“The new structure allows for greater transparency, public awareness and gives the community more options to provide feed-back,” Bayside Mayor Dr Christina Curry said.

“We want to improve the decision-making process by providing considered advice across all the functional areas of Council.”

“The new committee structure means any item or project that Councillors would normally be briefed on by staff will now be done in a public forum.

“Councillors will have greater input on a broader range of programs, policies and issues. I encourage all my fellow Councillors to take an active interest in the committees and contribute to the discussion,” Mayor Curry said.

The meetings will be open to the media and public, and residents will be able to register to speak on any item.

The agenda for each committee, along with the relevant council reports, will be available on Council’s website and meetings will be live streamed via our YouTube channel.

Committee final minutes containing all recommendations will be referred to a Council Meeting for determination.

Council will finalise the membership and terms of reference for each committee at an extra-ordinary meeting on Wednesday 23 February 2022.
