Four new program leads for Mater Research

Mater Research’s five world-class programs are each led by an outstanding researcher who facilitates and encourages high-quality research outcomes and strengthens clinical and research partnerships within Mater to support the delivery of excellence in care.

Mater Research is delighted to announce four new Program Leaders:

  • Professor Geoff Faulkner and Dr Cathy Franklin will co-lead the Neuroscience Program

  • Dr Beth Mah, Healthcare Delivery and Innovation Program, appointed alongside current co-leader, Professor Simon Denny

  • Associate Professor Adam Ewing, Cancer Program, appointed alongside current co-leader, Professor Janet Hardy.

Mater Research Executive Director Professor Maher Gadhi took the opportunity to thank outgoing Program Leaders for their leadership, hard work and commitment to the roles.

“Our outgoing Program Leaders have made excellent contributions to Mater Research during their time leading their respective programs,” Professor Gandhi said.

“I look forward to working with the new Program Leaders to progress our research vision at Mater Research.”

Prof Geoff Faulkner

  • Program Leader – (biomedical)
  • Group Leader –

Prof Faulkner is a computational and molecular biologist with a focus on understanding the role of a type of DNA jumping gene called L1 in causing genetic variation between neurons within an individual brain.

Dr Cathy Franklin

  • Program Leader – (clinical)

Dr Franklin is a psychiatrist who specialises in intellectual and developmental disability in adults. She is the inaugural Director of the Mater Intellectual Disability and Autism Service (MIDAS).

Dr Beth Mah

  • Program Leader –

Dr Mah is a perinatal and infant psychiatrist and the inaugural Medical Director of Catherine’s House for Mothers, Babies and Families.

A/Prof Adam Ewing

  • Program Leader – (biomedical lead)

A/Prof Ewing and his research group develop software tools and apply computer modelling, backed by expertise in molecular and cellular biology, to better understand the genetic complexity of mutations in evolutionary and disease related processes.
