Four teenagers charged after carjacking and pursuit across Sydney, NSW

Four teenagers have been charged following a carjacking and pursuit with police overnight.

Just after 7pm (Monday 27 September 2021), a 42-year-old man parked his BMW X1 in the lower-level carpark of a shopping centre at Wentworthville. He got out and walked to the shops while his passenger, a 42-year-old woman, remained in the vehicle.

Shortly after, four teenagers approached the BMW and opened the driver’s door before allegedly producing a knife, demanding the keys.

The woman handed over the keys and got out of the vehicle before the group drove off.

The man returned to the carpark and attempted to block the exit; however, the BMW manoeuvred around him, forcing him out of the way.

Police were notified and detectives from Cumberland Police Area Command commenced an investigation.

Just after midnight (Tuesday 28 September), investigators received information regarding the stolen BMW’s location and PolAir located the vehicle at Seven Hills.

The BMW was monitored as it travelled from Seven Hills along the M4 to North Sydney and travelling back westbound on the M2 and M7 before it was located abandoned on Woodley Crescent, Glendenning, about 1.30am.

Ground police attended, and with the assistance of the Dog Unit, four teenagers were located at a home on Simms Road, Oakhurst, and arrested.

Three boys – a 15-year-old and two aged 13 – along with a 14-year-old girl, were taken to Mt Druitt Police Station.

The 13-year-old boy was charged with aggravated robbery in company, and police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly.

The 15-year-old boy was charged with aggravated robbery in company, and be carried in conveyance take without consent of owner.

Both were refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Tuesday 28 September 2021).

The 14-year-old girl was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

She was given conditional bail and will appear at a children’s court on Wednesday 6 October 2021.

The other 13-year-old boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

He was given conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Wednesday 3 November 2021.
