Four youths have been charged in relation to a number of offences committed in the New Norfolk, Bridgewater and Hobart areas over the last month.
The youths – a 12 year old female, a 13 year old female, a 14 year old male and a 16 year old male – were arrested at Bridgewater yesterday.
Police allege the majority of the offences involved stealing from businesses, damage to property and assaults.
Three of the four youths were detained to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court, Youth Justice Division.
Acting Inspector Dee Rowe said that police were continuing to work with key stakeholders to address community concerns relating to youth crime.
“Our community deserves to feel safe at home, out in public and in their workplaces. That’s why we are continuing to conduct high visibility patrols across the district. Our police are responding to these incidents, and charging offenders,” she said.
“Police also actively seek out opportunities for the diversion and rehabilitation of youth offenders because we know early intervention is particularly beneficial in preventing crime.
“Our state-wide Youth Crime Intervention Units engage directly with those young people, actively seeking opportunities for diversion or rehabilitation.
“Police are committed to protecting the community and local businesses and detecting and preventing anti-social and unlawful behaviour with the aim of making our public spaces safer for everyone.
